Carron,

Yeah, I'm still alive and kicking. I now have one year under my belt as a Social Studies Teacher and I love it. It was always a passion of mine ( history, government, cultures, etc. etc.) and now I get to teach it. I'm spending my summer doing odd jobs for my wife's business (Interior Design) like painting, wallpapering, simple carpentry, and the like, but I'm looking for other part time work just to stay busy. The old house we live in (130 years old) always has a project to work on so I'm never out of work, it's just that I don't get paid to do it.

My oldest son is home from Temple University for the summer and he and my youngest
both work at a discount grocery store trying to save money for cars.

I'll becoming out that way in July and I'm going to try to swing by Anamosa if I can. Two other families and us are going to Branson, MO for ten days. It wasn't my first pick for a vacation spot but one of the families has a time share we're using so we couldn't beat the price. I'll contact you if we're able to get there.

I promise I'll send some photos as soon as I get some decent ones to send. I'm sure you're interested to see how I've changed. I know sometimes it has been hard for me to recognize some school mates at first when you've posted their photos.

Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members 04/06/2004

Fifty students at Clarion University were inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Phi Kappa Phi is an all-discipline honor society, with a mission "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others." Those elected to membership include upper 7.5 percent last-term juniors and upper 10 percent seniors, along with outstanding graduate students, faculty, professional staff, and alumni.

Ernest Hartwig, a junior secondary education/social studies major. He is a son of Suzanne Hartwig of Knox and is a 1981 graduate of Anamosa Community High School in Anamosa, Iowa.

Hey, Ernie, remember when we were counselors at 7th grade camp as 9th graders? With Jean, Stan, and who else?? Some Biggart gal from the class of 1980?? Did we or did we not sneak out and go canoeing during the early a.m. hours??)

Okay, you got me. I haven't purposely not written. It just seems I always get wrapped up in other things or it slips my mind. I have immensely enjoyed the blog with everyone's photos and happenings in their lives. I greatly miss being back in my home town, though the last time I was there it looked but a shell from the good ole days.

Well, I live in a small western PA town. I moved here after I retired with 20 years in the US Army Special Forces (AKA Green Beret) I loved the military, my fellow Band of Brothers, the travel and all, but it got too much being away from my family. My wife and I have been married 21 years now and we have two boys. Keith, 18 a freshman at Temple University in Philadelphia, and Lucas, 16 a Junior in High School.

I spent 8-9 months on the average every year away from them. After retiring from the military, I dabbled in a few things like construction but it was a dead end. I needed something more cerebral. I did enough physically demanding stuff in the military. So my wife and I decided I should use my VA benefits and go to school. Fortunately, there is a small University nearby so I went to it (Clarion University of PA) I received my BSED in Social Studies (let your Dad know). I was fortunate that while I attended school I landed a pat time job as the Clarion County Veterans Affairs Director. A great job if it would've only paid more.

Anyway, I now teach History in a small rural school that graduates about 40 a year, yeah I said 40. I really love it. As soon as I get some recent photos scanned I'll send them out for the world to see.

I'm sure you and the rest will say you kind of recognize me except that I use to have more hair, at least I think that's what it's called. Oh well, I like myself so it doesn't matter. Some in the photos I saw I recognized rather easy, others, well, it took me a while.
